The problem
The Finecare Plus runs quantitative rapid immunoassays at the bench: HbA1c, CRP, procalcitonin, cardiac markers, thyroid and fertility hormones, D-dimer. It has a network port and a built-in printer, and the printer was winning. Each result was torn off the roll and typed into the hospital management system by hand.
How we connected it
The Finecare Plus transmits each result over Ethernet. A virtual COM driver on the host presents that network stream as an ordinary serial port, so the receiver reads it through the same serial listener used for the rest of the lab and parses each transmission as it arrives.
A catalog file maps the analyzer's test names onto the matching HMS forms. Because the Finecare's menu spans many panels, the catalog carries the routing: a CRP lands on the inflammation form, an HbA1c on the diabetes form. A new cartridge type is a catalog edit, not new code.
